The Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers will host the Down East Maniacs on Saturday Night at Community Gardens in what is billed Minor Hockey Night. The Mark's Island Junior Hockey League game gets underway at 7:45 p.m.

Any minor hockey player from Kensington, Matrix, or Gulf Storm wearing his or her jersey will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

The Vipers have clinched first place and could quite likely be playing the Maniacs in the first round should the Maniacs beat the Charlottetown Metro Builders in their best-of-five mini series. Both teams will be looking to put in a strong performance heading into the playoffs and would like to send a message, should the two teams collide come playoff time.

The Vipers will be looking to work on some things as well, especially their power play which hasn't been great all year, clicking at a 14-percent ratio coming into this week.

"We have worked on it in practice lately and it has started to show dividends all ready," remarked Vipers owner and general manager Pat McIver.

As poor as the power play has been it has been a different story on the penalty kill this year for the Vipers. The team came into the week only allowing 20 goals on 263 power-play attempts while scoring 10 short-handed goals for a 95-percent kill ratio.

The Vipers drew their biggest crowd of the year last Saturday and will be looking to build on that heading into the playoffs.
