Smith Keys Falcons Win over Vipers

SHERWOOD, PE—Alex Smith scored three times, including the game winner to lead the Sherwood A & S Scrap Metal Falcons to a 4-3 victory over the Kensington Vipers in Marks Work Wearhouse Island Junior Hockey League action Wednesday evening. The game was played at the Cody Banks Arena in Sherwood.
Kyle Reardon also scored for the Falcons, who improved to 8-6-1-0 on the season. Gavin Duffy (3), Dan Roberts, Braden Johnston, Brent Coade, Chris Boswall, and Brodie MacDonald all earned assists. Tyler MacDonald stopped 30 of 33 shots to earn the goaltending victory for the Falcons.
The Vipers, who fell to 11-3-0-0, received goals from Nick Reilly (1-1), Jeff Costain (1-1), and Cameron Webster. Ben Sherren (2), and Thomas McSweeney contributed assists. Logan Reid turned aside 22 of 26 shots in suffering the goaltending loss.
The Vipers lead the game 1-0 after the first period on Webster’s goal, but surrendered three goals in the second to fall behind 3-2 after 40 minutes.
Referee Thane Arsenault assessed a total 19 minor penalties in the game, 10 of which were handed to the Vipers. The Vipers also received two ten-minute misconducts, while the Falcons were charged with one game misconduct for checking from behind.
