MacDonald, Whelan Lead Falcons over Wings

SHERWOOD, PE—Brodie MacDonald scored the game winning goal at 19:38 of the third period to give the Sherwood A & S Scrap Metal Falcons a 5-4 win over the Western Red Wings in Marks Island Junior Hockey League action Wednesday evening. The game was played at the Cody Banks Arena in Sherwood.
Daniel Whelan, who made his debut with Sherwood, was also key in the victory. The 20 year-old blueliner scored a pair of powerplay goals for the Falcons. Also scoring were Mark Walker, and Gavin Duffy. Recording assists were Dan Roberts (2), MacDonald, Johnny Vloet, Chris Boswall, and Kyle Reardon. Tyler MacDonald turned aside 36 of 40 shots to earn the goaltending win.
Scoring for the Wings were TJ Campbell (1-1), Alex Noonan, Matt Arsenault, and Kyle MacDonald. Assisting were Kendall Hackett, Pat LeFrank, Matt Richard, Darcy LaPierre and Kris Read. Alex Robertson recorded the loss in goal, stopping 24 of 29 shots.
The Falcons held the lead 2-0 after the first period, and the two teams were tied 3-3 after two periods.
