Island Junior Hockey League

Vipers to host Boxing Day Bash
Posted Sep 5, 2010 by AJ Sports Media.

The rivalry will continue on Boxing Day when the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers host the Western Red Wings at Community Gardens in Kensington. The Mark's Work Wearhouse IJHL matinée game gets underway at 3:00 p.m.

These two teams have heated up the rivalry as of late and it very well may be the fiercest rivalry in Island Hockey today. The previous two games have boiled over and have led to a combined 15 fights in the two matches.

What makes things even more interesting is that the two teams are first and second in the league standings. The Vipers have won the last two games but not easily as one game to a shootout and the second ended 6-4 with an empty-net goal.

The Vipers are excited to host the Boxing Day matinée this year. Manager Pat McIver feels that Island hockey fans that used to crave the Caps/Abbies Boxing Day game will get there fix at this game.

"That game was always well attended and people have missed that traditional game. We hope to return to Tyne Valley next year and keep this a yearly event that people can get out of the house to see some intense hockey action."
