Vipers Sweep Maniacs in Home and Home

KENSINGTON, PE- The Kensington Moase Plumbing & Heating Vipers closed out the second game of a two game set here in Kensington Saturday evening against the Montague Down East Maniacs by defeating the Maniacs for the second straight game.

In Friday action of the Mark's Work Wearhouse Island Junior Hockey League, the Vipers defeated the Maniacs by a score of 6-1. The game was played at the Montague Wellness Center.

Scoring for the Vipers were Jeremy Jollimore (1-3), Kendall Costello (1-2), Cameron Webster (1-1), Thomas McSweeney, Dustan Jones, and affiliate Matt Stead. Assisting were Mitch Gallant (2), Nick Reilly, Shawn MacManaman, Jeff MacIsaac, and Jeff Costain.

Matt Morrison, from Chris Falls, and Jordan Hughes scored for Montague.

The Vipers held period leads of 3-0, and 4-0 respectively.

On Saturday, the Vipers continued their dominance as they defeated the Maniacs by a score of 10-6. The game was played at the Kensington Community Gardens.

Nick Reilly scored three goals and added two assists to lead the Vipers, while the newly-acquired Dustan Jones scored three goals. Also scoring were Jeff MacIsaac (1-1), Jeff Costain (1-1), Kendall Costello (1-1), and Thomas McSweeney. Other assists were credited to Shawn MacManaman (4), Allan Clow (4), Mitchell Gallant (2), Cameron Webster, Colin Webster, and Tyler Doucette.

Scoring for Montague on Saturday were Jordan Hughes (1-2), Tyler Clair (1-2), Josh MacDonald (1-1), Colby Bruce (1-1), Ben Sherren, and Tyler Gallant.

Nick Creelman was the winning goaltender on both occasions. He stopped 26 of 27 shots on Friday evening, while also stopping 32 of 38 on Saturday.

Travis Willis played both games for Montague, and suffered the loss in goal both times. In the first contest, he stopped 36 of 42 shots, before being bombarded with 52 shots in the second affair, where he allowed ten goals.

Next league action will see the Charlottetown Metro Builders travel to Tyne Valley to take on the Western Red Wings at Tyne Valley arena Sunday, January 10th at 7:00pm.
