Cassidy’s OT Winner Leads Builders over Wings

TYNE VALLEY, PE—Stephen Cassidy scored the overtime winner 2:35 into an extra frame to give the Charlottetown Metro Builders a 5-4 win over the Western Red Wings in Marks Work Wearhouse Island Junior Hockey League action Sunday evening. The game was played at the Tyne Valley arena.

Jeff Hillier (1-1), Ryan Chaisson, Alex Abbott, and Nick Cheverie also scored for the Builders. Assisting were Mike Crosby, Willie Whelan, Derek MacDonald, and Josh Toombs. Jeremy McKinnon started in goal for Charlottetown, and stopped 48 of 52 shots in a stellar performance earning the win.

Darcy LaPierre (1-1), Johnny Doull (1-1), Pat Gallant, and Alex Noonan scored for Western, who drew assists from Alex McInnis (2), Kyle MacDonald, Matt Arsenault, and TJ Campbell. Cody Saunders suffered the loss in goal, allowing five goals on 30 shots faced.

Referee Steve Dyer assessed a total of seven minor penalties in the game, five of which were called against Western. The Wings were also charged with a ten minute misconduct for checking to the head.
